Hitboxes and lag

I can't pretend like I know much about netcode and lag compensation techniques in game development, but from what I've noticed it seems like this game achieves it by futzing with the size of the hitboxes depending on the players' connections. But it seems way too over exaggerated. I didn't realize how big of a problem it was until earlier tonight when I got the final kill cam, and it showed me firing 3 feet in front of the guy and getting hit markers. Now I understand that the final cam is from the host's perspective and not mine, blah blah, but still, such a discrepancy among what different players see on their screen should not be this big. There have also been numerous cases of other players apparently not being where they were supposed to be, or acting sooner than what my game depicted (shooting me before they even appear on screen, killing me after I'm well behind cover, emptying half a clip into a guy for him to kill me because apparently he shot first, etc.)

If a guy shot me first and killed me, I have no problem with that. However, I have a problem with the game teasing me into thinking I shot him first. Despite MW2 being a heaping pile of garbage balance-wise, at least the mechanics in that game worked well - so well that I never had such a problem in that game. I feel like this game is the completely opposite, with well-balanced gameplay but really spotty mechanics.

Before any geniuses come in and say "Get better internet", I almost always have a 4-bar connection. Yet even when I'm the host, funky things like this happen, though not as much. I really wish more games supported dedicated servers as that would almost complete negate such latency issues. There have been numerous videos surfacing showing how wonky the hit detection in this game, especially with sniper rifle shots that don't register when the crosshairs are clearly on someone's chest, yet I can't count how many times I've been killed from someone spraying everywhere but my body from across the map. Then I have to wonder if this game was intentionally designed this way to, dare I say, "reward" bad players with poor aim and hinder the person who's actually lining up the shots to even the playing field. I feel like I'm playing against the game more than against other players, and it's extremely frustrating.

And if I knife-lunge thin air one more time, I am going to explode.
